What we nurture

Areas of development

The Nido environment is designed around the whole child, not just what they learn, but how they move, connect, and grow into themselves during the most formative months of their lives.

Gross Motor Skills

Free movement through thoughtfully arranged spaces strengthens coordination, balance, and body confidence at every stage of early development.

Fine Motor Skills

Activities with materials sized for small hands develop precision, hand-eye coordination, and the control that will later support writing and independence.

Language & Spanish Immersion

Guides speak exclusively in Spanish through songs, naming, play, and daily routines. Language is absorbed naturally during the peak window for bilingual acquisition.

Independence

From self-feeding to choosing their own activity, children are gently supported in doing things for themselves and building the confidence that grows with them for life.

Emotional Security

Our guides build deep, consistent bonds with each child. A warm, predictable environment gives toddlers the safety they need to explore, try, and trust.

Music & Movement

ABC Spanish In Motion weaves Latin American rhythms, songs, and movement into every school day, making language and joy inseparable from the very beginning.

What the day looks like

a day in Nido

"During this sensitive period, the child absorbs everything from their environment, not through effort, but through living." — Dr. Maria Montessori

🌅

Arrival & Morning Welcome

Children are greeted individually in Spanish by name, with warmth. The morning begins with a gentle transition that makes the classroom feel like a second home.

🧺

Practical Life Activities

Pouring, sorting, folding, caring for plants. Simple, purposeful activities that build concentration, coordination, and genuine pride in doing things independently.

🎵

Music, Movement & Circle Time

Songs, rhymes, and movement — all in Spanish. Children absorb vocabulary, rhythm, and joy all at once, often without realizing they're learning a language at all.

🍎

Snack & Mealtime

Children help prepare, serve, and clean up their snack — building practical skills, independence, and the kind of healthy relationship with food that starts earliest.

🌳

Outdoor Exploration

Time outside is not a break from learning — it's an essential part of it. Movement, nature, and fresh air support everything that happens inside the classroom.

😴

Rest (Full Day Program)

Rest is honored as part of the child's rhythm, not rushed. Calm, quiet spaces support healthy sleep habits and restore energy for the afternoon.

Questions parents ask most

Honest answers to what families really want to know before enrolling.

Do we need to speak Spanish at home?

Not at all. Our program is designed for families with zero Spanish at home. Children absorb language through immersion not through their parents. Many of our kids end up teaching their families.

Does Children's House count as Pre-K or Kindergarten?

Yes - the three-year Children's House cycle encompasses Pre-K and Kindergarten. The third year (ages 5–6) is our leadership year and aligns directly with Kindergarten readiness standards and beyond.

My child is shy / energetic / a late talker. Will it work for them?

Yes - especially. Shy children thrive because they are never put on the spot. Energetic children thrive because they have real autonomy. Late talkers benefit enormously from full immersion in a rich language environment. Our guides meet every child exactly where they are.

How does the Montessori method work in practice?

Children choose their own work from prepared materials on open shelves, move freely through the classroom, and work at their own pace. The guide observes, supports, and introduces new materials when a child is ready, never forcing or rushing.

Will my child be ready for elementary school?

SIMS graduates consistently enter elementary school ahead of their peers in reading, math, self-regulation, and social skills. The Montessori method builds intrinsic motivation and independent thinking, skills that carry forward for life.

How many years do children spend in Children's House?

Typically two to three years, depending on when they enter. Most children join at age 3 and complete the cycle by age 6. Each year builds on the previous one, which is why staying for the full cycle yields the strongest outcomes.
