Our Philosophy

Maria Montessori’s original observations of children, over a hundred years ago, stand true today.

“Education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words, but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment. The teacher’s task is not to talk, but to prepare and arrange a series of motives for cultural activity in a special environment made for the child”

img_4481As well as Maria Montessori we believe there are sensitive periods for learning. There is a magic window of opportunity for language acquisition (birth to 6 years) that exists when children are very young and that exposure to multiple languages at a young age improves a child’s ability to master languages in later years. We believe that rapid and lasting learning takes place most eectively through the senses, the use of props, music, and motion designed to stimulate the mind. We create a positive association with the language through puppets, games, poetry and Latin American music and the use of Montessori materials.

We believe the most effective path to language acquisition is through total immersion not just in the language but in its cultures. For that we employ native Spanish speakers to conduct all the activities in the target language.

“The child development follows a path of successive stages of independence, and our knowledge of this may guide us in our behavior towards him. We have to help the child to act, will and think for himself. This is the art of serving the spirit, and are which can be practiced to perfection, only when working among children.”

We believe that our role as a program is to partner with families to help in the education of the whole child, socially, physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Each student in our program is encouraged to develop a strong sense of his or her own abilities and responsibilities as individuals, and as members of a community. We hope and believe that each child will welcome his or her future, take with joy, condence, and a true appreciation of and respect for themselves, and for others.
